Interreg NEXT Karadeniz Havzası Programı kapsamında 28 Şubat 2026 tarihinde başlayan projede Türkiye, Yunanistan ve Gürcistan’dan paydaş kurumlar birlikte çalışacaktır.

Interreg NEXT Karadeniz Havzası Programı kapsamında desteklenen PURE RIVERS – Nehirler için Kirlilik Bilinci ve İyileştirme Çalışmaları Projesi (Proje ID: BSB01319) paydaşların bir araya geldiği çalışma toplantılarıyla resmen başladı.

PURE RIVERS projesini doğru anlamak için öncelikle şu soruyu sormak gerekiyor: Karadeniz'e dökülen nehirlerimize baktığımızda ne görüyoruz? Bizlerin gördüğü şey şu: Kirlilik artık yalnızca çevresel bir sorun değil, sağlık sorunu, ekonomik sorun, gelecek nesillere bırakacağımız mirasın sorunu. Karadeniz Havzası nehirleri, kirlilik ve habitat bozulmaları nedeniyle ciddi çevresel baskılar altındadır. Günümüzde çevresel kirlilik maalesef artık sınır tanımıyor.

İşte tam da bu yüzden bu proje sadece bilimsel bir çalışma değil, sınır ötesi bir sorumluluk üstlenimi olarak öne çıkıyor.

PURERIVERS Projesi, 3 ülke, üç nehir ve dört farklı kurumu bir araya getiriyor:

Sakarya Nehri, Meriç (Evros) Nehri ve Supsa Nehri proje kapsamında araştırılacak, üç ülkeden aşağıdaki dört kurum çalışmaları yürütecektir.

→ Sakarya Valiliği (Türkiye)

→ Trakya Democritus Üniversitesi (Yunanistan)

→ Lanchkhuti Belediyesi (Gürcistan)

30 aylık projenin kapsamında dört temel alanda çalışmalar yürütülecek:

1. Kirlilik Tespiti ve İzleme: Hedef nehirlerdeki kirlilik kaynakları ve düzeyleri bilimsel yöntemlerle tespit edilecek ve izlenecek.

2. Azaltma Stratejileri: Kirliliği azaltmaya yönelik uygulanabilir, ölçeklenebilir stratejiler geliştirilecek ve hayata geçirilecek.

3. Ekosistem Restorasyonu: Nehir ekosistemleri yeniden canlandırılacak, biyolojik çeşitlilik korunacaktır.

4. Bilgi Paylaşımı: Öğrenilen yeni bilgiler paydaşlarla, toplumla ve karar alıcılarla paylaşılacak.

Pure Rivers projesinin nihai hedefi, su kalitesini iyileştirmek, nehir ekosistemlerini korumak ve yeşil altyapıyı güçlendirerek hem çevreye hem de topluma uzun vadeli faydalar sağlamak. Burada kurulan ortaklıkların, elde edilen verilerin ve geliştirilen metodolojilerin, proje bitiminden sonra da havzaya yol göstermeye devam etmesi projenin çıktılarından biri olarak öngörülüyor.

PURE RIVERS: Pollution Understanding and Restoration Effort for Rivers

A Kick-off meeting for the PURE RIVERS project—which aims to assess and reduce pollution in target rivers within the Black Sea Basin while improving ecosystem health—was hosted by Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa. Under the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Program, the project—which began on February 28, 2026—will bring together partner institutions from Türkiye, Greece, and Georgia.

The PURE RIVERS – Pollution Understanding and Restoration Effort for Rivers Project (Project ID: BSB01319), supported under the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Program, officially kicked off with working meetings bringing stakeholders together.

To truly understand the PURE RIVERS project, we must first ask this question: What do we see when we look at the rivers flowing into the Black Sea? What we see is this: Pollution is no longer merely an environmental issue—it is a health issue, an economic issue, and a matter concerning the legacy we will leave for future generations. The rivers of the Black Sea Basin are under serious environmental pressure due to pollution and habitat degradation. Unfortunately, environmental pollution today knows no borders. This is precisely why this project stands out not merely as a scientific study, but as an undertaking of cross-border responsibility.

The PURERIVERS Project brings together three countries, three rivers, and four different institutions: The Sakarya River, the Evros River, and the Supsa River will be studied under the project, involving the following four institutions from the three countries:

→ Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa (Project Leader, Türkiye)

→ Sakarya Governorship (Turkey)

→ Democritus University of Thrace (Greece)

→ Lanchkhuti Municipality (Georgia)

The 30-month project will focus on four key areas:

1. Pollution Identification and Monitoring: Pollution sources and levels in the target rivers will be identified and monitored using scientific methods.

2. Reducing Strategies: Feasible, scalable strategies to reduce pollution will be developed and implemented.

3. Ecosystem Restoration: River ecosystems will be revitalized, and biodiversity will be protected.

4. Knowledge Sharing: New insights gained will be shared with stakeholders, the public, and decision-makers.

The ultimate goal of the Pure Rivers project is to improve water quality, protect river ecosystems, and provide long-term benefits to both the environment and society by strengthening green infrastructure. It is anticipated that the partnerships established, the data collected, and the methodologies developed will continue to guide the watershed even after the project concludes.
